Over at my parents’ house, things are beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Poinsettia plants galore (which Penny loves to eat … not good!)
The Christmas Tree is fully decorated, complete with train.
So it was no surprise that when I showed up today, my mom threw the book at me.
This book is older than me (by about ten years!) and every year, I help my mom decorate the sugar cookies. Not pictured, but still just as important are the other cookies in her arsenal (Chocolate Crinkles, Mexican Wedding Cakes, Snickerdoodles, Chocolate Chip … the list goes on and on!)
We started with our supplies:
My mom prepped the shapes, as I got my creative genius ready for work.
We went through about six trays full of cookies, and plenty of sugar! Though some of my designs were a bit unorthodox, they were all quite festive.
Now we just have to wait for the rest of the family to arrive so I can watch people devour my creations!
SUGAR COOKIES FOR CHRISTMAS
1 and a quarter cups of sugar
two thirds cup Crisco
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Cream sugar, Crisco, eggs, milk and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; blend into egg mixture. Roll one eighth inches thick on lightly floured surface. Cut with cutters! Decorate as needed. Bake on un-greased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Remove immediately.
