pacing yourself with pandora

if i’m flitting around the gym, doing circuits, weight lifting, burpees, etc, i keep my ipod nano close at hand (though i’m in desperate need of a new playlist for that little guy, so that blog post is forthcoming!). if i’m relatively stationary – on a bike, stair stepper, treadmill, elliptical, i am able to utilize the beautiful tool that is pandora via my phone. over my workouts, i have honed the serious talent it requires to hop from one pandora station to another, knowing when to use one of your precious skips to go to the next song, and when to make the big move to a new station. here is a sample guide that i used this week for a 40 minute elliptical workout.

Warm up: The Golden Oldies Station

Songs you hope come up:

  • Do You Love Me?*, The Contours
  • Respect, Aretha Franklin
  • Good Lovin’, The Rascals
  • The Wanderer, Dion

Songs you might consider skipping:

  • At Last, Etta James

*you might recognize that song from THIS movie:

Kick it into High Gear: The Dance Cardio Station

Songs you hope come up:

  • On the Floor, J. Lo and Pitbull
  • Mr. Saxobeat, Alexandra Stan
  • Better Off Alone, Alice Dj

Songs you might consider skipping:

  • Memories, David Guetta (just getting so tired of it!)

Time to stay motivated for ten more minutes: Pop and Hip Hop Power Mix

Songs you hope come up:

  • Shake Senora Remix, Pitbull
  • Promiscuous, Nelly Furtado
  • We Found Love, Rihanna

Songs you might consider skipping:

  • Beauty & a Beat, Justin Bieber (i realize other people enjoy his music, but it’s not something i can handle while working out)

Cool Down: 80’s Pop Station

Songs you hope come up:

  • Take Me Home Tonight, Eddie Money
  • Keep On Loving You, REO Speedwagon
  • You Give Love a Bad Name, Bon Jovi

Songs you might considering skipping: is there an 80’s song that i don’t like? i don’t think so.

so tell me – what kinds of music do YOU workout to? any favorite pandora stations i should know about?
