from the inspirational files of e.e. cummings

in frantic search of inspiration through these bleak and frigid days before spring (hopefully) emerges, i turned to one of my favorite writers, e.e. cummings.


i love this quote because it works well on so many levels.

in fitness, muscles must be broken down before they can become stronger.

with food, you must rid your body of toxins before you can fuel it properly with nutrients.

in art. it is impossible to create something truly unique without voiding your mind of preconceived notions and beliefs.

the benefit of experiencing life means we take pieces of prior events and opinions to put toward improving what comes next, but it must be done with a clean and open mind or we lose something.

  1. This is a great reminder, thank you. 🙂 Preconceived notions are what trip me up the most, and it’s so important to not let them stop me from doing what I have my heart set on doing. They’re just your mind’s way of trying to talk you out of something that’s hard or scary.

    • yes! who you think you are (not you specifically, the general you) is often clouded by experiences with others, things that have happened TO you, versus really being about what you want, etc.
