Eating Dessert From a Can

After dinner snacking has been a constant conundrum for me since Ella was born. During pregnancy, I REALLY got my own expectations up with evening bowls of ice cream and all other kinds of crazy treats. I tried to trick myself with “trail mix” – bland almonds and an insane amount of chocolate chips. But since I created my new guidelines, that kind of sugar intake was off the table.

Enter the impeccably timed opportunity from Blue Diamond. They sent me two new flavors to check out and review: Blueberry and Salted Caramel.

I apologize for the lack of photography where the Blueberry flavor is concerned. Those didn’t come in a tin, they came in a pouch, which my dog promptly destroyed when we were done eating the almonds inside. I have to say, I don’t blame her.

The Blueberry was my personal favorite. The whole bag smelled like a batch of freshly baked blueberry muffins, and even though the purple color of the nuts threw me a little at first, I found the flavor terribly addicting.

The Salted Caramel flavor were delicious as well, and aptly named. My mom and Dan and I agreed that we could all absolutely taste the salt AND the caramel distinctly.

Both seemed like a great compromise on after-dinner “dessert.” Though they do have a bit of added sugar in them, it’s nothing like eating handfuls of chocolate chips at a time! Almonds have plenty of amazing health benefits (including the fact that they supposedly increase milk production – a major bonus as far as this mama is concerned!) and lots of fiber to counteract the “carbiness.”

I still wouldn’t make this an “every day” affair. Almonds are pricey and full of calories, but for those nights that I REALLY want a Twix, these are an excellent compromise to have on hand.
